Minds & Equations: Portraits of the People Who Rewrote Reality

Meet Minds & Equations, black-and-white portraits of the scientists and mathematicians who changed how we understand the world, each with their signature equation.

Behind every equation that changed the world, there was a face. Minds & Equations puts the two back together: a gallery of the scientists and mathematicians who rewrote reality, each photographed in the grand manner of mid-century press photography, with the one formula they are remembered for chalked on the blackboard behind them.

The tradition we're drawing on

These are not clip-art portraits. Each plate is built to feel like an archival print pulled from a newspaper morgue:

  • Silver-gelatin monochrome, deep blacks, luminous highlights and fine film grain, lit with dramatic raking light.
  • One equation, chalked by hand, E = mc², a wave function, a symmetry, the single idea that sitter is known for.
  • A matted archival plate, the surname letterpressed beneath in restrained serif, so it reads as museum rather than poster.
Note

Every portrait shares the same grade and the same mat, so a physicist, a mathematician and a chemist hang together as one considered series rather than three unrelated prints.

The first minds

The opening set spans relativity to information theory:

MindRemembered for
Albert Einsteinrelativity, and the equation everyone knows
Marie Curieradioactivity, and two Nobel Prizes
Alan Turingthe machine that became every machine
Emmy Noetherthe symmetry beneath the laws of physics
Richard Feynmanquantum paths and irrepressible curiosity
Srinivasa Ramanujanformulas that seemed to arrive from nowhere
Albert Einstein portrait poster
Marie Curie portrait poster
Alan Turing portrait poster

Made to actually live with

The mood is only half of it. Every Minds & Equations plate is printed on the same 200 gsm matte paper as the rest of the catalogue: smooth, glare-free, and made to sit flat behind plexiglass. (More on paper in Paper Weight, Explained.)

Tip

These belong over a desk, in a study or along a hallway. A trio of thinkers you admire makes a quiet, daily argument for curiosity.

Questions, answered

What sizes and ratio are the prints?

Every design is composed in a clean A4 (70:99) portrait ratio, so it frames beautifully in standard sizes without awkward cropping. See the full print specifications.

Where do you ship?

To Switzerland, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States, with shipping included in the price. See Shipping for delivery estimates by country.

Will more minds be added?

This is the opening set. We'll keep adding thinkers across the sciences, so it's worth checking back before you plan your wall.
